We received a very interesting press release today. It's about Audeze's headphones that feature a new colorway and head gesturing technology.
The new colorway, it's nice, I guess. But head gesturing technology?! Now that sparked my interest.
Audeze Mobius are cinematic 3D headphones for movies, music and gaming on the PC and major consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One powered by Audeze Planar Magnetic drivers, which are supposed to have superior audio quality. Partnering up with Waves, developers of audio DSP technology, the Audeze Mobius incorporates NX technology, enabling 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound along with head tracking and room emulation.
Team Carbon
"Team Carbon," the new colorway, joins the Audeze Mobius lineup. It actually look pretty neat. It's gray on black. While that may seem pretty standard to you, I guess it makes sense to mention that the other colorways in the lineup have bronze on black (Team Copper) and blue on black (Team Blue).
But I think the real meat of this story is the customizable Head Gesture Key Bind.
Head Gesture Key Bind
With Head Gesture Key Bind, people will be able to bind various keyboard inputs and macros to head movements. WHAAATTTTT?!
Here's what's crazy. You know how in some first person shooters, and you're trying to peek around a corner, you press the peek button but your head still tilts towards whichever direction you're shooting? And when you're getting shot up, you also still kinda tilt your head? So with this technology, moving your head will actually activate the a key! That's CRAZY!
Of course it'll be different with every game, so yes you can customize your own key binds, but the headphones will come with presets for the most commonly used ones.
Head Gesture Key Binding is currently in the beta-testing phase, but it sounds really goddamn exciting. Right now, you can actually download Audeze HQ, the app for Windows and Mac, for free. It currently offers HRTF Personalisation, Sound Profiles, Head-Tracking Visualisation, and Device Information. Audeze really are at the the cutting edge of audio gaming technology.
The Mobius
The Audeze Mobius itself was designed with a flexible, detachable boom microphone with built-in noise attenuation, mute/unmute functionality, and independent microphone volume control to provide crystal-clear voice quality. The cups are contoured memory foam earpads with a adjustable, durable, memory foam padded headband. Sounds comfy.
How Much Is It?
Innovative technology, especially when it's literally the first of its kind (to my knowledge, at least), comes at a price. And the Audeze Mobius comes at a hefty one. They go for SGD 629 or around $452.85 in Singapore. You can get yours from their Lazada page.
