There is one speaking Filipino character. I only need to give you one chance to guess what his name is. Give up?
Yep, it's Jose. Of course, it's Jose. Why the hell wouldn't it be Jose? He begs Captain America for mercy in behalf of the book's villain, Mole Man. Because Jose showed so much empathy for the international subterranean terrorist, Cap decided to make him an honorary Avenger. Yep. Jose, the Jollibee store manager-looking guy, for asking Cap to take it easy on Mole Man, gets named an honorary Avenger. I want this to be canon so bad. Someone update this Wiki entry IMMEDIATELY!
The other comic book from Jollibee is a little more advanced.
It's written by Joe Casey, with art by Mike Kolins. This issue is actually pretty damn cool. It's a reimagining of the early Avengers years, likely to be between Avengers #3, when Hulk left, and Avengers #4, when they found Captain America frozen in ice. Truth be told, this issue is a pretty good read!
Characterization is spot on, especially if you consider how these characters would have acted early in their careers. Thor was an arrogant ass, Tony was (though he still is) a futurist who thinks he's got it all figured out, Pym was a few pushes away from beating up his own wife and Jan was the soul of the Avengers. Dialogue fit each character perfectly, even Hulk.
Another pretty cool thing about this issue is that they show Clint Barton in a Jollibee jacket. I would now gladly pay good money for a similar jacket. Also, Rick Jones sports a Jollibee shirt inside the Avengers mansion. How boss is that?
If you were to pick between the two issues, go for the second one for the story and the art, but I don't think anyone can pass up on the cover of the first one. I'm not sure if they still have em' in stock, but they're available when you buy Jollibee Kids Meals from, well, Jollibee.
