I think that, in a sense, all comic book fans are lovers of visual arts. Besides the stories, the art is what initially draws us in as fans. As aspiring student photographers, you guys should be drawn to Php 50 grand and this sweet camera.
For 28 years, PLDT and Directory Philippines Corporation have been holding their annual Visual Arts Competition. It's a celebration of art and it's used to determine which photo is to be used on the cover of the Yellow Pages. Yes, there are still a few people who use the phone book. You know, up where there's no Internet.
This year, they're taking a more scenic approach and going with the theme "Scenes From My Hometown."
Since they started doing this, they've been focusing on all kinds of art but three years ago, they started diving into photography. This way, a lot more people could enter the contest. And that means YOU can join, too!
Here's what's up for grabs:
The grand prize winner will receive Php 80,000.00 in cold, hard cash, a special trophy, and a Canon EOS 550D digital camera. To sweeten the deal, his/her school will also receive Php 25,000.00 cash donation from PLDT and DPC (now known as YP) and a Canon PIXMA printer.
The top 50 finalists will get Php 5,000.00, and their works will be put on display at Gateway Mall - and from the 50 pictures up on display, the public can select their favorites for the People's Choice Award, the winner of which will also receive a cash price, a trophy and some goodies from Canon. There will be three winners of People's Choice Awards, one from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
This is how you join:
The 28th VAC is open to all students, 15-24 years of age, and are currently enrolled in a local school. And that means old dudes like me are out. Each student can submit up to three entries - either in full color or in black and white if you're trying to be artsy. Major prize entries must be 8" x 12" in size, portrait in orientation and 10 megapixels in resolution. All entries must be uploaded to the website on or before February 7, 2014. Click here.
