God of War is one of the most amazing games that have come out on the PS4. It has been praised by almost every gaming media outlet out there. It's the best reviewed PS4 game to date. That's saying a lot because there are a ton of gems on the Sony PlayStation platform. For me, part of its appeal is the fact that you can crank the difficulty way up and get plat in a single run. However, at the highest difficulty, Give me God of War, some optional areas can get highly frustrating. One of the most difficult encounters would be Muspelheim's Impossible Trial where you can't get hit once. You have to dispatch 20 enemies, including 4 Wulvers and 1 Soul Devourer without getting hit.
It took me a total of 9 hours before I was able to complete the Impossible Trial. Here's how to do it:
There isn't a flowchart I can talk about but here's the order of enemies as they come out:
#1-3: Draugers (two with shields, one with a hammer and a fireball)
Tips: Always be aware where the fireball is coming from, and if you can take out the hammer guy first, it makes the rest of the fight easier because as soon as you've dispatched 2 enemies, the next one pops up.
#4-5: Wulvers.
Tips: These guys are tricky. Try to take them out at the same time if possible because as soon as 1 Wulver is down, the next enemy appears. They're fast so be careful. I've seen people stay away and just use axe throws.
#6-7 Dual Wield Draugers
Tips: Always let Atreus keep them busy so you can deal with the other enemies that come first. They're not too much of a threat because you can block all their attacks but they can get up in your face and force you to lower your guard to push them back.
#8-10 Hel-Shadow Archers
Tips: They throw very fast ice spears so you have to be aware where they are at all times. Parrying them is fine but it's risky, just attack when you're open.
#11-12 Dual Wield Draugers
Tip: They don't spawn until you've dispatched the last group so this is when you take a breather and recharge your cooldowns. Take them down when you're ready.
#13 Wulver
Tips: He will come out running. Dodge his attack then throw him off the ledge with a runic attack, like I did in the video.
#14-15 Drauger with power weapons
Tips: While you're fighting these two, the next enemy appears so keep them busy with Atreus.
#16: Another charging Wulver
Tips: Do the same as the one above. In case he doesn't charge in or a stray shock arrow stops him, consider taking him out first as he's the most dangerous. Once you defeat him or one of the two Draugers, the next big baddie appears.
#17: Soul Devourer
Tips: Very important to SAVE YOUR RAGE for this fight. It's very hard to take him out the traditional way because you can only block his beam projectile, the rest are unblockable and they don't even need to hit you directly because they have a small aoe. Get enraged, wait for him to open his weak spot and throw a rock at him. Then grab him to dispatch.
#18-20 Power weapon Draugers
Tips: Should be easy from here on out. Just make sure to dodge their attacks because they're unblockable.
Some general tips:
- Keep your back to the ledge, so you can't get hit from behind
- Use shock arrows liberally. You'll need as much CC as you can get.
- Use runic attacks that won't lock you into an animation for very long
- Try to spec for most damage/ runic and not vitality or defense. Those won't matter since you can't get hit.
- Try to dispatch enemies in batches. If you kill them too slowly, the next ones tend to show up and you'll have a harder time.
Good luck!
