Artist of the Year (The Comic Book Group Awards 2011!)

“Why Francis is the Man!”

By Jean Carlo L. Oshima

Why should Francis Manapul be the artist of the year? Is it because of his graceful and exquisite strokes? Is it because he manages to make even a boy from Krypton so human? Is it because he has a way with the ladies? Or is it because of his ability to infuse the Speed Force into every sinew of the Flash?

No of course not, it’s because he’s Filipino!

Ok that was a joke, but poor jokes, aside it’s really for all the other things I mentioned. I like Francis because he has taste when creating a sheet of comic book art. It’s brilliant. It’s what a comic book is supposed to be.

SECRET X-POLICE

by Amun Rhanta Reon

DISCLAIMER!

This review/blog post may or might contain spoilers. If you still haven't read the major X-Men plotlines or the Uncanny X-Force and other related comics, you might not want to proceed from this period.

Seeing you're still reading this, you are prepared for the risks. Opinions expressed in this post are all from me, so our opinions might differ at some points of the review.

Wolverine: X-Force is gonna make sure NONE of the bad guys show up on our school's doorstep. On-call Campus Police.

Fantomex: Campus Illuminati Assassin Squad has a better ring.

After the deaths of Nightcrawler and Cable’s sacrifice to get the team back to their original timeline, Cyclops ordered X-Force disbanded. Since he realized that things are—well—actually fine, he didn’t see the immediate need of a team like the X-Force. Even though they are ‘actually fine’, things are pretty messed up after the surprising events.

You better not mess up with the X-Men with them around or they’ll end up messing you.

HERE COMES... DAREDEVIL!

by Jay Sanchez

Upon hearing that ye ole horn-head won this award, I immediately thought that the idea was preposterous. Upon much thought, I realized that I couldn’t exactly figure out why it seemed that way to me. So in times of comics-y doubt, I turned to the archives and did a little bit of back reading on what Matt Murdock’s been up to in the last decade and even his newest arcs like Shadowland and Daredevil Reborn. Cause you know, we gotta know the context and stuff… Yeah.

THE DCnU

by Amado Aparentado

They never thought it would happen. They never thought it would succeed. It was too much of a risk, they said. Who would want to read rebooted relics of the Silver Age? They were wrong. DC, synonymously known as the number two of the “Big Two” (with Marvel seemingly numero uno for an eternity), DC Comics broke out of it's shell and did the unthinkable.

THE COMIC BOOK GROUP!!!1!1!!ONE!

Okay, it sounded a lot cooler in the 1940s.

Hi everyone. I'm Leiron. And I'm new here. Forgive me for that awkward introduction. But in the next few days, there are going to be posts here in GeekOut.ph (which is all sorts of awesome, you have to admit) that are all about the very best that the year 2011 had to offer.

And just who's posting? Well not me (though I do have an entry). It's a little something that I'm opening to all of you readers out there to join and enjoy. It's...

Maybe you've heard of us, which is cool, or maybe you haven't, which is a great sign of you having an actual life. :v We're those crazy kids last Komikon, screaming ABLOOBLOOBLOO! to find each other around the Bayanihan center, waving a sign with our logo and asking people like Budjette Tan, Gerry Alanguilan, and Rob Cham (who is a moderator!) to hold up for photos. So yeah. A little history about us.
