Ever since the 1989 Batman movie came out, I have dreamed of a massive team superhero movie that didn't suck. Yeah, sure, there was the Justice League, but that had more of a B-movie feel to it. I would dream about seeing Batman and Superman in just one movie and think about how freakin' awesome that'd be if it was done right.
Mere cameos make me geek out hard; so an entire movie about the Avengers collected from their own respective individual movie pretty much does it for me. When the plan was announced after the success of Iron Man in 2008, I swear, I stopped breathing for a good fifteen minutes.
The Avengers premieres 10 days from now here in the Philippines, a whole week ahead of the United States (May 4, 2012). Don't worry, Americans, we'll livetweet about it so you won't feel left out. To contain my excitement a little bit, I decided to put together some trivia about the Avengers that most geeks probably already know but the uninitiated might not. Think of this as a noob's guide to the Avengers to get everyone pumped up for the movie.
Fully Booked, being as awesome as they are, was kind enough to give a few bloggers the opportunity to spend some time with David Finch to talk shop with him. Unfortunately, I was only able to catch the tail end of the panel interview; but even in that short time, I caught a glimpse of who David Finch was as an artist and an all around cool guy.
Last week's unfortunate postponement of the David Finch signing came upon us unexpectedly and fanboys (and girls) were throwing hissy fits, frustrated that the one weekend they've been waiting for did not come to pass. Worry not, batfans! David Finch has resolved all the issues and has committed to coming back this weekend, March 17 - 18, 2012!
Here is the new schedule:
March 17, 2012
3:00 pm Artist's Talk
4:00 pm Book Signing
March 18, 2012
3:00 pm Artist's Talk
4:00 pm Book Signing
To make it up to the fans, they're waiting for those who have previously signed up to confirm their attendance before opening it back up to the public. If you've registered before, you've pretty much got a shoe in.
Our winner from before, Gia Densing, will still be honored and will receive the same prizes as stated in the contest. She will still be getting VIP treatment and a Php 2000.00 GC from Fully Booked. Huzzah!
We'll be constantly updating this article as more details come to light. For now, though, we know the signing is back on for sure. The drawing contests and other such activities, I'm not so sure about, but I'm confident those will likely push through also.
Fully Booked is bringing in David Finch to Manila to spread awesomeness throughout the land. We got in touch with them and we came up with a pretty cool way to get you first in line at the signing. That's right. Fully Booked and GeekOut are giving away one VIP pass to the March 11, 2012 signing event at Fully Booked Bonifacio Highstreet.
A VIP pass essentially means you'll be within the first 5 in line to get your stuff signed. You won't have to wait in line, unlike the rest of humanity. To sweeten the deal, we're also giving the winner a Php 2000 gift certificate at Fully Booked!
Here's how to join. It's ridiculously simple.
1. Tweet (as in using Twitter) what you'd like David Finch to sign the most. Batman? Moonknight? Your breasts, maybe? Your baby brother's Batman tattoo? Be creative. Most creative one wins. Use the hashtag #DavidFinchAtFullyBooked. I know it's long, but that shouldn't be a problem. It's for tracking purposes, mostly.
3. We'll pick out one we really like, and he wins 1 VIP pass and a Php 2000 gift certificate from Fully Booked on March 9, 2012 at 12 noon. Make sure to tweet before then. You can tweet as much as you like.
4. Announcement will be made on this article, so keep the link. We will also mention you on a tweet to inform you, and if you follow either account, we can send you a DM.
5. The winner will have to meet up with me and/or a representative from Fully Booked on March 11, 2012 way before the event starts at 3:00 PM.
6. GeekOut contributors, writers, editors and publishers aren't allowed to join the contest. Sorry, guys. :(
Let's go comic book geeks! Tell all your friends!
Got questions? Just leave a comment, and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
WINNER: Congratulations to @GDENSING for her tweet:
Mark Millar, the guy who brought you Marvel's Civil War. Kick Ass and some of the best bits of Marvel's Ultimate universe, has found a clever way to drive up sales for his latest piece of work - Supercrooks.
"WIN MARK MILLAR!
This week you can win Mark Millar for a free signing at your comic store – wherever you are in the world!
The retailer who orders the most copies of Mark Millar and Leinil Yu’s upcoming release “Supercrooks” #1 will win the award-winning writer for an afternoon signing at their store. Mark will cover all his own flights and expenses; all you have to do is place the biggest order before Monday 27th February! The winner will be announced on CBR as soon as the Final Order Cut-Off window closes."
That's a fairly brilliant idea, especially since Filipino fans are so goddamned rabid.
