It's also worth nothing that this game is being published by Square Enix. You know, those guys who made Final Fantasy so damn popular? Yep, same guys. However, Crystal Dynamics is the game's developer and based on the games in their list, it's looking a little iffy. It doesn't seem like they've made any triple A title in recent years. But of course, we'll wait and see how it plays.
Here's the latest trailer.
I'm a High Moon Studios fan. I loved their Transformers games, even though a bunch of the multiplayer trophies were practically impossible to get without boosting. What scares me about the Deadpool title is that Activision is publishing it. That means you'll likely to pay $5 for use of one more pistol and another $5 for another katana.
Based on the trailer, it seems like it'll be a straightforward action hack and slash game. Not a lot of details have been released, but if we're going to follow standard comic book video game basics, we should see more than one costume. We better! DP's costume in the game looks too polished for him. Where's the little bit of extra cloth on his mask? His costume is like that because he doesn't give a shit. For now, it's a minor gripe.
Will this be the next Batman: Arkham City? Meh, I don't think so, but it'll be a fun ride and I'm excited!
On the DC side of things, we've got the Mortal Kombat-esque fighter, Injustice: Gods Among Us. As you probably know, its the similarities between MK and this game are due to the fact that NetherRealm Studios is developing it. So, yeah, there won't be any fatalities or anything of that nature, which isn't so bad.
I'm not a big fan of the costumes, though. A lot of them seem like they're based off the New 52 design, and some of them just look weird. Flash looks like he put that suit together from crap he found in a scrapyard. Batman's costume looks way too much like Nolan-verse Batman. I hope alternate costumes will be available.
Historically, though, DC fighting games have always been one disappointment after another.
Ultraviolent franchise God of War is not done yet. Even though God of War 3 saw Kratos killing every known Greek god and even a couple heroes, Sony Entertainment Santa Monica still found a way to get him back into our game trays. Ascension is a prequel, set about 10 years before the original game on the PS2. It aims to be just as fun and brutal as the last four games.
What makes Ascension truly unique is the multiplayer. This is a first for the God of War series, and I'm excited to see how it turns out.
Sadly, the last time I played a Grand Theft Auto game was Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. That was years ago! I wasn't even able to touch GTA4. For that, I am truly sorry. I must rectify this immediately. I will find the time to play it, for sure.
Based on the press releases, GTA5 is going to have the biggest map of all the games. So, you've got a big ass playing field on which you can murder passers-by, shoot establishments and pick up hookers. Ah, that is perfect de-stresser.
Hot damn. I love Naughty Dog. Seriously. The Last of Us is looking super gorgeous. I am not clear on what the gameplay mechanics are just yet exactly, but it's looking like a survival adventure game with some modern platformer mechanics - kind of like Uncharted, only with less weaponry and more stealth. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a system that requires you to eat stuff.
There was a rumor going around that the protagonist of The Last of Us is Nathan's descendant. If so, that would make for a very interesting conversation. We should be ever vigilant and check for Uncharted Easter eggs in the vast, immersive environment of Naughty Dog's latest offering.a
Pre-order for The Last of Us is already out and you get bonuses for the multiplayer. But of course, us Asians are left out of that again. So, boo.
Games that are hyped up but aren't exciting to me
Crysis 3 - This system hog of a game was never something I was keen on playing, not because I wasn't interested but because my PC couldn't handle it. I could probably play it at the lowest settings, where everything looked like Minecraft, but what would be the point, right? When it got ported to consoles, I had just lost all interest in it.
Devil May Cry - Out of all the franchises being rebooted, this one made the least amount of sense. Granted that DMC is only partially a reboot, and it also acts like a prequel, but changing things up drastically seems like a mistake to me. Of course, I could be wrong, and it ends up being a great way of showing how Dante got his funky white hair, but I wouldn't count on it.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance - I was never a fan of Raiden. In MGS4, I was hoping Raiden would get blown up permanently. This series has left its roots behind and I'm not sure if I wanna ride that crazy train. Sign up me for some Metal Gear Solid 5 instead!
Games I wish would come out by 2013
Okay, this game's release date is still TBA, but since it's in closed beta, maybe there's hope it'll come out next year.
When DC Universe Online went free-to-play, every comic book fan got on board and started hacking and slashing through multiple DC locations. At no time will you log into the servers and find yourself alone. Being free, the game made money through expansion packs, DLC and microtransactions for in-game stuff. This is the same model Marvel wants to use with their own MMO offering, Marvel Heroes.
Marvel heroes is starting to look a lot like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I enjoyed MUA and MUA 2 immensely. I wouldn't mind it being an online-only experience.
